What's it all about?

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid for the body. Studies have shown that tryptophan has two medical benefits.

1. L-tryptophan, a natural antidepressant.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in regulating mood and morale. Tryptophan is one of the precursors of serotonin. Numerous studies have shown that elevated tryptophan levels in the brain result in increased serotonin release. As serotonin plays an essential role in regulating mood, morale and sleep, tryptophan has been attributed the same properties.

2. L-tryptophan promotes sleep.

Tryptophan's ability to induce sleep was first described in 1962. At the time, tryptophan was widely used as a treatment for subjects who had difficulty falling asleep. Nearly 50 studies have tested tryptophan as a sleep aid. Although results varied, a consensus was reached: tryptophan can be an effective sleep aid in certain circumstances. While it is ineffective in cases of severe insomnia, it can cut the time it takes to fall asleep by almost half in cases of mild insomnia.

How to use

Recommended dosage: Adults and children aged 12 and over: 2 to 3 capsules a day, or as recommended.

The maximum recommended dosage is 2 grams per day. Various foods provide tryptophan, which is why the maximum recommended dosage for dietary supplements is lower.

When should you take tryptophan?

Tryptophan increases the secretion of serotonin, which promotes sleep, as well as melatonin, which keeps you asleep throughout the night. This effect is progressive, so you can adjust your intake according to your sensitivity to the product. Take it either before bedtime, or a few hours before, for example with your evening meal. In other words, take 2 to 3 capsules 20 minutes to a few hours before bedtime.
