As a result, Taurine, like all dietary supplements, is not recommended for children or pregnant women, and should be consumed in moderation.
Note: Taurine is often used in commercial energy drinks (sold in supermarkets and on specialist websites, etc.).
Efsa (the European Food Safety Authority) issued a scientific opinion in 2009 on the safety of taurine as an individual ingredient in energy drinks. According to this report, the No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) for both substances is 1000 mg per kg bodyweight per day:
"This margin of safety is sufficient for people with average or high regular consumption of energy drinks, i.e. who take in an average of 125 mL (0.5 cans) and 350 mL (1.4 cans) per person per day respectively."
Daily consumption:
Recommended daily amount (or as advised by your therapist or dietician/nutritionist): 1 to 2 capsules, twice a day.
Nota Bene: A dietary supplement does not replace a diversified diet.
