What's it all about?
Native to North America, Canada goldenrod was introduced across the Atlantic to decorate gardens. It reproduces by rhizomes and can spread rapidly, even proving invasive in places.
Notable properties of solidago or goldenrod
The European Scientific Cooperation on Phytotherapy recognizes the use of solidago (or goldenrod) for "irrigating the urinary tract in cases of inflammation or stones, and as a complementary treatment for urinary tract infections" (nephritis, kidney stones, cystitis or urethritis), including prostate diseases.
In rats and dogs, solidago extracts have been shown to have diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hypotensive (blood pressure-lowering) and sedative properties. In humans, four studies conducted without placebo in healthy individuals or those suffering from urinary tract inflammation tend to confirm solidago's properties.
Goldenrod is traditionally recognized for the following properties:
- Astringent, antioxidant and diuretic action against urinary tract disorders: nephritis, urethritis, cystitis.
- Renal disorders: kidney and gallstones.
- Antimycotic effect: against Candida (fungus responsible for vaginal infections).
- Gastrointestinal disorders: diarrhea, gastroenteritis in children.
- Improves digestive elimination.
Other traditional uses of solidago
Solidago is also recommended for gout (uric acid deposits in the joints), osteoarthritis pain (rheumatism), diarrhea and hemorrhoids.
Recommended dosage for urinary tract infections
Curative: 30 drops in water, 2 times a day.
