What's it all about?
Cascara Sagrada, or sacred bark, is extracted from the bark of the American "foul tree" (bot.: Frangula purshiana). It is mainly native to the Pacific coast of north-western America. It is perhaps the most famous herbal laxative.
Properties
Cascara Sagrada is one of the most effective botanicals available for chronic constipation, and one of the most reputed for relieving this intestinal dysfunction. It promotes intestinal peristalsis (bowel movements), in which the colon wall contracts and intestinal contents are transported. This process speeds up and facilitates intestinal passage, as stools are softer. Emptying the intestines is also facilitated. Its laxative effect is felt within 6 to 8 hours.
Benefits
- Natural laxative.
- Stimulates secretions in the entire digestive system, including the liver, gallbladder, stomach and pancreas.
- Helps combat chronic constipation.
- Increases peristaltic activity.
- Very useful for hemorrhoids caused by poor intestinal transit.
- Promotes the growth of non-pathogenic bacteria in the colon.
Recommended use
Take two capsules as needed to relieve occasional constipation.
Note
Do not take laxatives in case of abdominal pain, vomiting or other symptoms of appendicitis. Keep out of reach of children.
